Newark Man Convicted of Molesting Four Young Brothers

Essex County Prosecutor Paula T. Dow announced that a Newark man was convicted by a jury for sexually

molesting four young brothers in his bedroom three years ago.

Joseph Iadipaoli, 39, of Newark, was convicted of four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of sexual assault

and for counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Essex County Superior Court Judge Betty Lester has

scheduled sentencing for March 13. Iadipaoli could face up to life in prison.

According to Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Rowbotham, between December 2003 and May 2004, the

defendant assaulted the boys in his Columbia Avenue home. The boys were brothers from the same mother but

different fathers and ranged in age from 7 to 11. The defendant was a family friend and had permission to take the

boys to his home on weekends and overnight trips but always one at a time. The boys eventually reported the

incidents to their mother, who alerted the police. Iadipaoli was arrested by Newark Police on May 5, 2004, and

was indicted in February 2005. Iadipaoli had been free on $100,000 bail, but had his bail revoked after the verdict.

He is currently in Essex County Jail.

The boys are currently living with foster parents.
